13 January 2009

GKN, the vehicles and aircraft engineering giant, is to announce its plans for the aircraft wing operation that it bought from Airbus. The operation, which is based at Filton in Bristol, is celebrating 'Day One' of the takeover. The Airbus manufacturing site was bought by GKN for £136 million in September. A spokeswoman for GKN Aerospace, the aerospace operation of GKN, said: "Monday is Day One for GKN Aerospace and our 1,500 staff, the acquisition of the Airbus Manufacturing facility having now successfully concluded." She said that a media briefing would be held setting out the company's plans for the facility, adding: "We will cover the work that we intend this site will undertake, the expansion of the skills base, and how this fits into the company's overall strategic plan for growth going forward." GKN Aerospace, which spans 30 countries, is a global supplier of structures and components to the aviation industry. Copyright © Press Association 2009
